Several LSMVPA members spent Saturday in the museum on Camp Mabry
helping to reassemble the 1952 vintage F-84E fighter-bomber destined
for the "Texas Air Guard in the Korean War" exhibit.
We attached both wings and got the main landing gear lowered. We
would have had the tail plane back on too, but had a "slight" snag.
Seems that while the aircraft was in disassembled storage with the Air
Force, the tail plane got mixed up with that for an F-94, a completely
different kind of fighter, and that is what ended up here!
So, the aircraft will be displayed in a maintenance context until the
proper tail plane can be located.
Rube Goldberg would have been proud of our wing attachment rig, but it
worked well!
Members involved included David C, Glen V, and Rory C
