Event- Touch-a-Truck
When- May 9th, 2015 9am-3pm
Where- Camp Mabry, Austin
This was a fundraising event to benefit the Austin Childrens Shelter
and other childrens charities. The Guard was one of the main event
sponsors this year, so it was held on Camp Mabry.
The threat of inclement weather kept a couple of our vehicles away again.
Initially, it really looked like it might be a washout, and there was
a pretty good shower most of us drove through on the way in, but other
than a couple of light sprinkles, the weather held for the event
itself.
We moved our vehicle display to the museum, due to rather sodden
conditions on the parade deck, our original planned area.
Event staff had made an estimate of around 2500 attendees for the
show, but by 11:00, over 4000 had bought tickets! It is unknown yet
how many actually visited.
I know we were thronged non-stop throughout the day.
Various commercial and public entities brought an array of
construction equipment, trucks of all types, firetrucks, ambulances,
and machinery.
LSMVPA supplied all the military vehicles.
For this event we had James H with his M1009; Charlie S manning the
Harris' Navy fire truck; Jim H with his M38A1; Barry F had his
Servi-Car; and Rory C brought his M931A2 tractor and M274A5 Mule,
accompanied by David C, Caitlin C, and Panda.
Caitlin got rated as a mule wrangler at the event, and has pretty much
laid claim to the Mule for future events!
