Event: Mainstreet Car show
Where: Downtown Taylor
When: October 31st 1000-1600
This is usually a very large and well organized car show.
Participation this year was limited by torrential rain and flooding in
the area in the days prior to, and early morning of, the show. Due to
this, and concern about what the day held weather-wise, only about
half of the expected LSMVPA contingent actually made it to the show.
As it turned out, all the rain cleared the area by 0800, and the day
was completely dry, even sunny at times.
Participating were David and Caitlin C in David's M109A3, Scott P in
his M35A2, Domingo M in his M1009, Barry F with Harley serviCar, and
Rory C and Panda with the M931A2.
Barry went all out for the occasion with his Halloween theme, to
include a rather grotesque facial prosthetic he made himself.
Claude V also made a welcome appearance.
We were given a very good spot, with plenty of display room even if
all the anticipated LSMVPA vehicles had shown up. We were perfectly
situated for a good view of all the entertainment.
The public enjoyed our display, and several potential new members were met.
A myriad of great vehicles were on show, covering the age of
automobiles from infancy to current.
One of the notable vehicles on display was an American LaFrance fire
truck bought new by the Taylor Fire Department in 1916. The truck
served until after WWII, then was put out to pasture (literally)
behind a barn, where it languished until recently. It survived in
remarkably good condition, and Fire department personnel are now
restoring the truck, financed by private contributions for the cause.
A 99 year old truck, with only one owner!
A good time was had by all in attendance, and the show organizers were
very appreciative of our participation.
