This years Smithville Independence Day / Veteran's Memorial Fund raiser parade seemed to be a little on the weak side. Participating in the parade was Rory and son Patrick who is home on a pre deployment leave, James H., Charlie S., Madison, Daniel C.and Danny with his 151. Some local vets were supposed to ride with us as Parade Marshal but none showed up so Lone Star did that job. The short bio I sent in to be read by the announcer didn't make but that was okay because the announcer make it didn't either. However, the parade did start on time and the 3 or 4 dozen spectators along the parade route did enjoy the festivities. After the parade we headed over to River Park to set up our vehicles for everyone's viewing pleasure. The big event for the day there was the BBQ cook off and shortly before noon we were asked to be judges. Since we live but to serve, we said why not and headed to the cook off area not really knowing what was in store for us next. At noon the food started coming and we sampled and judged 4 steaks, 2 variety's of sausage and 1 dessert. At 1 PM came 12 different types of chicken, 1:45 PM was 12 types of ribs and at 3 PM was 12 types of brisket for a total of 43 different samplings of food. There is a silver lining in every cloud.
