Event: |
Waxahachie July 2nd Independence Day and Crape Myrtle parade |
Date: |
3 July, 2011 |
Location: |
Waxahachie, Texas |
Our original plan was participate in the parade with our '43 GPW, my wife Sue, and my daughter Jennifer. Then we added my daughter-in-law Charity, our grandson Luke, and Tom E. (Jennifer's boyfriend). As you will see in the photos, the women dressed in original WWII Red Cross nurse dresses and the guys in WWII uniforms. Well it grew quickly to include a deuce and a half, Charles V., Peter B., a WWII bicycle, John W., and about ten other folks, another jeep and a German motorcycle?!?! The three nurses and my grandson made winning the Automotive First Place ribbon a shoe-in!!
After spending some time with the local veterans, the parade "rolled off" about 10:00 am Saturday morning in the Waxahachie 14th annual "4th of July" Crape Myrtle Festival and Parade. We handed out leaflets for the Waxahachie November Battle for Nancy, France re-enactment and of course peppermint candy.
