Smithville, Texas The 2016 Smithville Fly-in was a first time event for the Lone Star MVPA. The event was Saturday, May 14th, 10:00am – 2:00pm. We arrived at 08:00 and were set-up by 10:00. Lone Star Members provided 4 Vehicles and two large Military Displays. We set-up along the inside of the entrance to the Airport! We were in a line on the edge of the road. The vehicles, 4 or 5 feet into the fresh cut grass. This allow people to walk around the vehicles and displays. Members that were present for the event: Madison M37A1 with display. Joey H will help with the set-up and display. Jim H M38A1 James H with his 1009 and his Chaplin display! Matt T with his 2 ˝ ton Shop Van. Jackie and Matt’s son and a Friend all helped with the displays. The weather was warm, overcast, and light Rain shower in the Afternoon as we were packing up! Around 100 people and 50 or so Aircraft were present and on display! The Organizer said he expected 200 to 300 people and as many as 100 aircraft at the Fly-in. He stated that first responders will be in the field with us and also expect an Army UH60 from Ft. Hood. Our vehicles and displays were very well received by the public and event staff, many of whom made a point of telling us how much they appreciated it. Thanks to all who participated. This was a small event and not sure we should support it next year! If we do support it I do not think bring the big display’s is that well viewed!
