Date: 20 October 2016 Location: On October 20th thru 22nd I was privileged to participate at American Airlines annual "Sky Ball" charity event that was held in support of the "Air Power Foundation". Honored during this event were the men and women of "The United States Special Operations Command". The event raised an estimated $2.5M for charities that support first responders and military personnel and their families. See more at https://skyballinfo.com/ and http://finance.yahoo.com/news/american-airlines-sky-ball-xiv-180000807.html There were 21 Medal of Honor recipients in attendance. The commander of SOCOM and his staff and many Special Operations soldiers were there. I displayed my 1942 Ford GPW and spoke with honored guests and volunteers about it's history. Also displaying were members of the "Special Forces Association Chapter XXXI, Billy M. Smith, George Petrie Green Beret Chapter. They displayed several M38A1's (one was a 106MM recoilless Jeep). There was also a fine looking M151A2 as well as two Ferrets and an M998 Hummer. Many AA aircraft were on display including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The AA volunteers referred to it affectionately as the "Plastic Princess" as it has composite skin. SOCOM displayed their AC130W gunship, CH-47 Chinook, B-1B Lancer and a shallow draft Patrol Boat used by the Navy Seals. Many WWII thru Vietnam aircraft were there and so was "FIFI" the CAF's B-29. Also attending were two Mil-23 "Hind" helicopters from CAF Lancaster. There were many performers there to support this event. Tony Orlando, Gary Sinise (w/ Lt. Dan Band), Terry Fator (ventriloquist) and headliner for Saturday's black tie banquet was Tim McGraw. I was honored to be there and want to thank Air Boss, Tim Weiland for this opportunity. (Tim is currently restoring a 1942 Ford GPW.) Keep 'em rolling...JS -->
