Lone Star MVPA was invited to attend The Red White & Blue Banquet event at the Bastrop Convention Center. Located at 1408 Chestnut St. in Bastrop Texas. The Event was a Banquet for the Bastrop area Veterans this included Elgin Veterans also. The event is a $15.00 a plate dinner with the proceeds going to the NJROTC of both Elgin High school and Bastrop High School. The event was for all Veterans of any era. The Event doors opened for seating at 05:30 PM with the main event starting at 6:30 PM. Club members were asked to come before 03:00 pm to set-up there vehicles and Displays. Our Host provided a location for our vehicles in the front entrance. We had Jim H’s M38A1 on the side walk with Madison H’s M37A1 also James H with his desert tan M 1009 and Domingo M also in a camo green M1008. This was a prime parking area lots of traffic! Jim H, Dan C, Charlie S and Madison H set-up a Large displays just inside the building. Club members were in Drag from various era’s. A surprise visit from Charlie W was a welcome visit. Charlie pitched right in and starting teach the ROTC kids all about rifles. We were so busy the 5 of us could hardly answer everyone’s questions. The displays were over 70 feet long this included Domingo’s display and James H’s Chaplin display. All the vehicles and displays were well visited and some war stories came forth! These were great American Veterans and well deserved our thanks!

Dinner was served and we were able to take a break! After the last of the guests were served a Lady came over and said you guys ready we moved some of the displays and we all got to eat a great meal! The lady said the served over 550 people the best she could tell! As our visitors slowed down we decided to start putting up or displays. We were assisted by 10 or 12 ROTC young men and women. They helped carry things to the loading area. As we rolled out of the event center it was 9:30 PM. Everyone got home safely the guys followed the Jeep and the M37 until we reached home. Great Crew and a Job well done!

During the event all the ROTC Teaches came by and thanked us for all the hard work! They stated you will be able to make this next year! I followed up on Monday checking with the event center making sure we were good! We had used drop cloths to catch any oil drops and we were extra careful climbing the curb not to leave any tire marks on the curb or concrete! Susan said we were good and she was happy with us. I also commented on her crew who on their own brought us chairs for behind the display table. She thank us for the comment!
