Start Over

The Hearne D-day remembrance was held Saturday 6 June 2015. Members of the Lone Star MVPA it were present and on our part a success. While most of us were very hot and under the pop-ups we still had a fun event. The weather cooperated, it was very hot, dry, and no wind.

We had only a fair turn out, rough count is at least 4 vehicles and 1 trailer, and 8 members. Most of us were in attendance in Oct which is the main event! This event was ran by Able Co. (A Co.) Airborne we were invited to attend as they had seen us before! Even though it was a WW2 event they were pleased to have our displays of equipment! JD H had his WW2 jeep and trailer with all his machine guns and mortar and field gear! Even though Jim H and My displayed vehicles are more Korea era and our equipment display covered WW2, Korea, Vietnam and Cold war era it was still accepted well!

Everyone got to and from the show safely, and no vehicles ended up on the side of the road (for more than a few minutes anyway). Madison H lost a hub cap off of his F250 tow truck due to tire rubber on Highway 79. The road was in need of repair also! Our vehicles and displays were very well received by the public and event staff, many of whom made a point of telling us how much they appreciated it.

Thanks to all who participated. I think the October show will be somewhat better and with advertising it should bring in 10 time the amount of people we had at this event. Also the October event will include aircraft fly overs and airborne jumpers!

Special thanks to JD H, Jim H and wife who helped put up my display! My Grandson Joey H (a junior LSMVPA member) Had a display and also helped unloading and reloading the vehicles. Don L was present with his jeep. He is a Camp Hearn volunteer! Glen V and Jeff Mc of Camp Mabry’s G Co came in drag and added to the WW2 personnel. General Patton and a German field Marshal were shaking hands and doing photos. Of course I reported to General Patton with a hand salute. I found you get along with him if you salute him first! He inspected my table and complemented me on my collection!

Big thanks to Cathy and the Camp Hearn people for the invite and the meal tickets.
