The weekend 16 May was the date for the Armed Forces Day Event in Giddings. It was an annual event but Saturday was the day for the parade and military recognition of all veterans with special recognition for Vietnam Vets. Having had several inches of rain prior to the event made for less that ideal conditions for the fair, carshow and BBQ cook off with it's 103 participants but all events went on as scheduled. LSMVPA was represented in the parade by Giddings local and club member Tim Barr with his M715 along with the Marine Corps League with their M38 A1 and a HUMVEE from the National Guard.

The weather for Saturday did turn out okay but with pre planning the order of the day the Military recognition was held under the covered rodeo arena. This event started off with the singing of various patriotic songs, National Anthem, opening prayer and the reading of proclamations from the Mayor and Commissioners Court. The keynote speaker was Bill McLemore from the TLB followed by the recognition of all Veterans and the swearing in of 20 new National Guard recruits and after that we all received challenge coins. The event ended with benediction, a 21 gun salute and the playing of taps. All in all a very moving ceremony and hopefully more members will be able to attend. Attending along with me was fellow club member John Clark.
