Start Over

Event: 9/11 Memorial, and a salute to WWII veterans
Where: Sun City, Georgetown
When: September 11, 2015 0830-1400

This event was sponsored by the Purple Heart Association Chapter 1919. Our POC was Ted Acheson of Sun City! Over 90 WWII veterans were in attendance. Most of the Veterans were past Honor flight guests and wore the distinctive blue honor flight shirt.

LSMVPA provided a vehicle and equipment display. Vehicles included Gary B's debuting M925A2 5-ton cargo truck, Madison H with M37, Sam R with M1028 and M101 trailer, Scott P with his M35, Glen V and JD H with their WWII Jeeps, and two Mules, Ralph M and Rory C both bringing their M274A5s.

JD H had a veritable trailer full of WWII gear, Glen V and Barry F also had WWII displays, and Madison had his massive display of gear spanning most of the 20th century. Also attending and helping out were Amanda B, Dan C and Claude V.

Early in the morning the event started in the Sun City Veterans Plaza where over 900 people attended. Guest speaker was the Georgetown Mayor! The Veterans were then transported by buses to Legacy Hills Pavilion where the display and lunch were served. A military-style lunch was provided, the caterer told me it was the first time he had been asked to provide fried Spam, and he doesn't get many requests for SOS!

The lunch was served to the 90 WWII Veterans, family members and Lone Star members. Period music from the 19 piece Republic of Texas Big Band with Three singers provided Songs of the WW2 era. They were very good.
