Start Over

The Lone Star MVPA arrived in Hearn Texas around 09:30 Saturday October 18th 2014. This is the second trip to Hearne for the Lone Star MVPA. Camp Hearne was WW2 prisoner of war camp. Local volunteers have worked very hard to re-build the Camp living quarters of the US troops who guarded the Camp. The barracks was built to the original blue prints using the same materials as was originally used. Last they had added a guard tower which overlooks the concrete slabs that were once the Prisoners housing.

Madison H with 1953 M37A1 ¾ ton Dodge radio truck and Jim H and wife with his M38A1 Radio Jeep. Dan C rode with me from Cedar Creek to the event and helped with the small display. Other club Members where Chip C’s Nephew wearing our 25 Year patch and our Life member Claud V. The weather turned out great all day! Madison H, Dan C and J H & wife set up their displays. The displays went over well. We also set up the 6 Clubs photo boards.

Our newest member also came in WW2 uniform, Trey M. Trey M helped when we were packing up to leave! Trey M was caring his Battery case Ice chest that he had won at the club picnic.

G Company’s Glen V, Jeff McD and John E who are also Lone Star Member Were in WW2 uniform and doing firing demonstrations. The German guys were also present in great uniforms.

I introduced Jim H to John E and the Vietnam war was on again they both had taken little walks through the same big rubber plantation. The story John E told was interesting. He guarded an air field near the rubber plantation and one day a Vietnam C47 landed and taxied to the end of the run way. A man is all white suit with white jacket caring a large suitcase got off the plane and got in a staff car and out of the base it went! The story goes the guy worked for the rubber plantation owners who had a deal with the Vietcong not to mess with the rubber production and were paid every month.

Lots of old Veterans spent time with us and lots of good stories! Don L showed up with a Jeep! They did not have any Army paratroopers this year. The Camp Hearne funds could not support the fuel bill! A great looking P51 and B25 did do some flying.

Contacts for this event was: Cathy Lazarus 979-814-0733 also 979-314-7012, www.camphearne.com This was a Fair event and should be considered next year! This year they had far fewer people show up than last year!
