Start Over

The Lone Star MVPA arrived in Hearn Texas around 08:30 Saturday October 19th 2013. Camp Hearne was WW2 prisoner of war camp. Local volunteers have worked very hard to re-build the Camp living quarters of the US troops who guarded the Camp. The barracks was built to the original blue prints using the same materials as was originally used. This year they have added a guard tower which overlooks the concrete slabs that were once the Prisoners housing.

Madison H with 1953 M37A1 ¾ ton Dodge radio truck and JD H with his WW2 Jeep with trailer drove 92 miles in convoy from the Hughes Compound near Cedar Creek TX to Camp Hearne. The weather turned out great all day! Madison H and JD H & his nephew set up their displays. The displays went over big time! Good thing Charlie S and Charlie W came to help set-up /take-down! They were busy most of the day helping answer questions. Grandson Joey went and made up lots of stories!!! Not sure where he herd all of them! When he found out the hot dogs were free he ended up eating 5 of them! G Company’s Glen V, Jeff McD, Mr. Menzie past LSMVPA president showed up! Mr. Menzie had a German motorcycle! German guys were great in their uniforms and equipment!

Lots of old Veterans spent time with us and lots of good stories! Don L showed up with a Jeep we had to push off the trailer but he is doing a good job on restoring it! Great looking front end, new tie rods etc. They had some Army paratroopers jump twice, The first jump had 6 second time there were 5! Un-like WW2 they hit the drop zone! C47 (Bluebonnet Belle) looked great and the B25 (Yellow Rose) was flying most of the day!!!
