The 326th Airborne Medical Company was alerted 25 February at 0430 and ordered to move by motor convoy to Fort Richardson, Jack County, Texas of all places (once home of the 131st Field Artillery that was inducted into the 36th battalion, that became part of the "Lost Battalion" in the Pacific in WWII, who built the "Death Railroad" over the River Kwai.) Headed out 0620, 20 minutes late already!! Upon arrival in the desert at 0810, the 326th Airborne Medical Aid station was immediately set up not far from the hospital.

The Commanding Officer, COLONEL CHARLES ODOM, 3rd Army Surgeon, made a reconnaissance and contacted the Commanding Officer of the 101st Airborne to arrange for the evacuation of the wounded to the aid station utilizing the single allocated 1/4 ton truck and at the same time would liked to have secured an ambulance.
