Event: Bastrop Car Show
Date: 12 November, 2011
Location: Bastrop, Texas

The Lone Star MVPA supported The Bastrop Veterans Car show with member vehicles, Madison H had his two M37’s one driven by Dan C and assistant driver, son Scott C. Sam R had his truck and trailer and JD H of Corpus Christi was present with his two young nephews. Other members were Robert and Hub R where present with an impressive display table of Vietnam era equipment. Jeff R was present and help Madison with his radio truck display. Fred W and his wife dropped by for a visit. Madison H’s grandson Joey H a junior MVPA member sat in the radio truck and entertained the Bastrop kids with his granddad’s radios. Sam R, Dan C and Madison H convoyed into Bastrop! As Danny had set-up with the event coordinator Terri Moore, we were place in front of the Opera house in fact we were sitting on the front steps any closer and we would be in the opera. This location was great it was very near the Canteen with coffee and doughnuts. The Event started at 8:30 AM none of our vehicles were entered in the event Judging. J.D. H’s 1942 ford jeep and massive WW 2 display was a hit. He and his nephews never got to sit down they were so busy answering questions. All the people were friendly and we made some good contacts and many people were interested in our hobby. One young man and his son were interested in the vehicles and radios they are both working on their Ham licenses. I think he may attend our next meeting! Madison H’s wife supported us by hunting down some good food. When asked why she was gone so long she showed me the bracelet she had bought at one of the craft booths. We packed it up about 300 pm and convoyed back to home.

This was an easy going low stress event with us taking turns watching the vehicles and letting the others checked out the cars at the show.

We had good pre event press in the local news paper with photos of last years event featuring JD H and his display. The Lone Star MVPA was given a paragraph of info.

Also in the paper was a controversy between the Car club Cruisers and Bastrop City Council who denied them a March car show permit. The Cruisers were trying to discourage other car clubs to by pass this Veterans Car show. The Cruisers wanted more of the profits and be paid sooner than the city council could get things paid for. Overtime for police, potties, EMS on stand by and city crews putting up barricades etc. This appears to be politics as usual! I do not think it hurt the car show that bad! This was a good event and the clubs mission and name were presented to lots of interested people! I feel next year this will be a good event for the club to attend with more vehicles! The Bastrop area people are strong military supporters.
