Event: LBJ Ranch Fly-In
Date: September 18-19 2010
Location: LBJ Ranch, Texas

The Lone Star MVPA supported the "G" company Vietnam reenactors at the LBJ ranch for the Birddog Fly-In. The Fly-In event has been held at this location in the past but It was the first time That “G” company was invited. The hopes is to grow the Event into a major yearly event. I arrived on Friday 17th afternoon about 1500 hrs. Downloaded my M37 and parked near the "G" company living history display area. The reenactors had set-up a US Army encampment as it would have been in Vietnam. There was also a camp of French troops set-up close to the US Troops. The VC reenactors also camped in the same general area. "G" company had a M113 track, ED Hall’s gun Truck and two jeeps that were used during the battles. Also a UH1 helicopter was used as an air attack aircraft.

At 1530 Ralph Mulcher down loaded his US Army Mule and parked it beside my M37. Soon after two San Antonio MVPA members arrived. Doak Nibblett who down loaded his M151 Jeep and parked it with our MVPA vehicles. Doug Brewster brought his Marine Mule and also joined or ranks. After some war stories we all turned in for the night. We had some light rain but it was not a problem. Morning came around 0700 hrs we got into our uniforms and went to a breakfast provided by the Ranch officials. Coffee and sweet rolls were served!

At O900 I set-up my Military display and was ready for the 0930 gate opening! Soon after people started arriving! At the same time The Birddog aircraft started arriving. All the aircraft were parked close to our location. Around 1000 hrs we had a steady flow of people coming by the table and asking questions about the military stuff. My firearm collection kept me busy explaining what it was and when it was used. Lucky for me Ralph and Doug helped answer questions when I was tied up! We had lunch at 1230 hrs and it was great Bar-B-Que Beef and chicken. The noon meal was a surprise to everybody. We all thought we would get dinner only! The LBJ ranch also provided that dinner! Around 1400 the battle began and drew the crowd. After the battle the display table slowed down and around 1600 rain was coming our way! I decided to pack-up and head home. Doug, Ralph and Doak all helped me store my stuff in the m37 before the rain started. That’s a big Thank you to those guys! As I was loading the M37 the rain started I was soaked but my stuff was dry! I made the 169 mile round trip home without any problems. This event will grow.
