Event: Texas Capital Chapter order of Purple Heart Catfish lunch
Date: May 23 2009
Location: Austin, Texas

Texas Capital Chapter 1919 Order of Purple Heart requested the Lone Star MVPA Provide a vehicle for display at their annual meeting. On the request of the in coming commander, John Burkhardt , of the local Chapter of the Purple Heart, Madison Hughes supported the request to represent the Lone Star MVPA at this event.

The event was held Saturday May 23, 2009. At the private residence of one of the members in the Driftwood area. Set-up for the event began at O8:30 which included one M37 Dodge and several tables of display material. The display included Radios, weapons and military field gear from WW-2, Korea and Vietnam. Many of the individuals and wives commented it was neat to see some of the equipment their love ones had told them they carried during their service.

I estimated around 150 people were in attendance. The catered catfish lunch was served and club business was conducted. During the meeting several awards were given for event organizers that the club conducts during the year! A change in command was performed with passing of the colors. Past Commander Raymond Diaz handed the flag to the new commander John Burkhardt.

The family of the first soldier to die in Iraq was honored during the event.

Four of my high school friends were purple heart recipients and Three were present at the event.

Many WW-2, Korea era and Vietnam Vets visited my display and great conversations were had.

I was very proud to support this event! The display was shut down around 1500 hrs due to rain and re-loaded on the M-37. The M37 was returned to the Cedar Creek motor pool with no incidents.
