The National convention was attended by Scott P, Rory C, and Charlie S. This year's venue at the Iowa State Fairgrounds was outstanding, the quality of vehicles on display was outstanding, the numbers in attendance were abysmal.
There were perhaps 40 vendors (if that), including the small folks in the outside spots. None of the usual big vendors were there (Memphis, TNJ Murray, et al) except Rapco. That said, there was plenty of room between display vehicles, and the walkways between vendor tables were broad and uncluttered!
Attendance by non-displaying MVPA membership was very small, and the open days for the public were simply pathetic. Bad enough that by noon on Saturday most of the vendors had started packing up, and almost all were gone by 2pm. The show went ahead and shut down not long after that.
The upside was that visitors like us got to see everything there at our leisure, and there were a few good deals to be had from folks who didn't want to cart all their stuff home, or leave with empty wallets.
Other than the overall decline in membership numbers in MVPA, I can see no reason for this show not being a successful one. It was well organized and well placed. I fear this is perhaps a symptom of a thin future for MVPA on a national level.
