Madison and Jim met at the Smithville Airport at 0900. We have been given permission to park there anytime we have an event for which we are very grateful. After downloading we went to the registration location and checked in and were led to our spot to wait. That was about 0930. The parade did not start until 1330 so we had a long wait. But it was not dead time as we had a number of visitors along with our own conversations. The weather was delightful with high 70 temps, partly cloudy (we were also under trees) and a moderate cooling wind. Jim H had made a mount to make a Fallen Hero display with an M1 Carbine on the bayonet. Turned out pretty good. Normally, they give awards as we pull out to start the parade but this year they gave out awards thirty minutes prior to departure. Jim H took the Fallen Hero’s award and Madison took the Veterans award. We both came away quite satisfied we had represented the LSMVPA well. The Austin American Statesman (online) even posted a picture of Jim H in the parade and mentioned we were part of the Lone Star MVPA.
