After Action Report Smithville 4 th of July 2023
Event: Annual Parade
Event Purpose: 4th of July Parade Honoring the Military
Date: Sunday July 2nd 2023
Location: Smithville, Bastrop County Texas.
The Lone Star Military Vehicle Preservation Asso. Was requested to support the Smithville 4 th of July Parade. Madison H was contacted only two days advanced of the event. The club had very little information on the event and was poorly attended due to the short notice and other upcoming events on the 4 of July. The event started with sign in at 1:30 and Judging starting at 2:00 the parade started at 3:30. The Madison H has supported this event for the past 11 years.
The requestor and our contact was Mrs. Kathy Karcher of Smithville city hall. Her contact information is:shineboch64@gmail.com.
We managed to provide one member with vehicle and was dressed in Vietnam era uniform. Madison H entered his M37A1 Radio Truck in the event. He was given the lineup number 13. But it turned out to be lucky number 13. The vehicle and Madison H received 1st Place Veteran trophy. The vehicle had three US flags and a signal corps Gideon.
This year the weather was good, somewhat hot, No rain. The event went well with the Announcer recognizing the LSMVPA as Private owned and maintained former military vehicle Club.
Member who participated was:
Madison H in Vietnam era Uniform and his 1953 M37A1 Dodge ¾ ton radio truck.
Madison H drove his M37 from his ranch in Cedar Creek to Smithville a round trip of 57 miles with the truck averaging 45 miles per hour. With a stop in Bastrop to fuel the truck at Buc EE’s with Non Ethanol fuel.
After the ceremony Mrs. Karcher told Madison how much Smithville appreciated our presents and was sorry about the short notice. Please do it again next year.
