Greetings all, As I’m sure many of you have noticed, the cost of living around the LSMVPA has increased slightly. A simple, and unfortunate, fact of life is that as time goes by, day to day costs go up. With this in mind, we were forced to raise our dues from $18 to $20 annually. We also had to raise the insurance contribution from $20 to $25 for all members who operate vehicles during events. If you have been to the meetings, and probably to a slightly lesser extent if you read the minutes, you know that this was a difficult decision to come to and was accompanied by much discussion, since we want to keep the cost of membership as low as possible. Basically though, if the club is to remain viable and we don’t want to have to do a bunch of fund raising activities, we have to pay to play. I still think it is a pretty good deal though, considering what we get out of it. The current rates should keep us in the black and insured for the foreseeable future. We have done several events so far, and are entering our busiest period of the year. During the next few months there are lots of events, sometimes consecutive weekends, and a few where there are different events in different locations at the same time! Boy Scout Parade 7 February 2009 This year’s Boy Scout Parade was a huge success with a total of 9 vehicles participating in the parade! We assembled in the TXDOT parking lot at 0730 and proceeded to line-up on the Congress Street Bridge. The weather was great, warm and sunny. The parade started at 0930 with everyone in the convoy carrying scouts to the Capital building. The crowd was good and we had a lot of applause along the way. Another great parade this year. Texas Independence Day Parade 7 March 2009 A good turnout for this annual event. The day began with the usual drill of gathering in the TxDoT parking lot. On schedule, we moved up to stage on the bridge. There we had time for a good visit before the parade began at 11am. More or less on time, we were off. With a fair number of vehicles, we drove in a column, which looked very impressive. Once we reached the Capitol and turned off of Congress we headed back to the parking lot. Back at the parking lot everyone chatted a bit, then packed up their vehicles and gear and headed for home. Another great parade in the club history book. Location Camp Mabry Museum, Austin Texas Directions 35th Street Exit off MOPAC. Go West over MOPAC and past the traffic light 600 yards. The gate will be on your right. Note: Due to increased security, if you plan on attending our club meeting, you MUST contact Danny K. at dkm151a2@yahoo.com Or 512 801-4190 a minimum of 3 days PRIOR to the scheduled meeting. He will ask for information which fou will verify at the gate at Camp Mabry. 2009 Meeting Schedule 1900 hours on the 3d Wednesday of the month. |
