Lone Star Military Vehicle Preservation Association Meeting Minutes

 18 June 2008

 Call to Order - 1910 hrs.

 Members present included:
  Danny K, Claude V, Rory C. Madison H, John S, Fred H, Sam R.

 Introductions - Guests, New Members: Bill M, a former member and past president, visited. He had gotten out of vehicle collecting for some time, but has renewed his interest and may rejoin.

Quartermaster Report: QM not present. Rory reported that a new source for .50 rounds has been found, along with smaller caliber linked rounds, and an order has been placed. Larger sized club T-shirts have been re-ordered as we sold out of the last batch rather quicker than anticipated.

Treasurer's Report: None


Web Site Update: John SS presented the Web Site Report. John SS reported that the website is pretty much up to date, i.e. he has posted all the material that has been submitted to him. Once again, software issues had caused problems and delays, John has successfully resolved these.


Newsletter Update: Rick was not present, but sent a message that the newsletter will be published this week.

 Recent Events:

 • • Memorial Day (May 26th) Danny gave a report . The only event for the club this year was the flag planting in Oakhill. A photo of Herb and his daughter was published in the Austin paper.

 • • Ft Worth Militaria Show (May 30th-June 1st) Several members attended, said it was a good one, though only a couple of vehicles.

 • • Vietnam Memorial Re-dedication (June 2nd) The VN memorial in Austin has been refurbished. Matt W attended the re-dedication with his M151A2.

 • • Lockhart Parade (June 14th) Danny gave a report. The event was a “mini-convoy” to Lockhart, with lunch afterwards. The club had five vehicles in the parade this year, the Alamo chapter also participated. A 2nd place ribbon was awarded to the group. Several members without vehicles attended.

Upcoming Events:
Danny K. outlined upcoming events. Danny will send out additional information as it becomes available and information will be posted on the club web site. Events included:

 • • Purple Heart Assoc. Picnic (June 21st) On Camp Mabry. Madison will provide a display.

 • • Lakeway Parade (July 4th) Will be on Friday this year. The parade theme is Patriotism. Assembly no later than 0715 at Swensons for move to staging.

• • McDade Watermelon Festival (July 12th) Details to follow…

• • MVPA Nationals (August) There are some pre-registration deadlines coming up, anyone going needs to check on these.

• • Veterans’ Day Parade (November) This year’s theme will be honouring female veterans. Club has been asked to supply a vehicle from the period of each conflict from WW2 to the present to transport two female vets each.

Announcements:
• Fred H recently visited the National WWII museum in New Orleans. He gave a glowing report and used the terms “great, beautiful, world class” to describe it. He stated that there are a large number of artifacts and they are well presented. Fred recommends a visit by anyone interested.
