Lone Star Military Vehicle Preservation Association Meeting Minutes

Call to Order - 1925 hrs. 

Members present included:  Danny K, Claude V, Fred H, Ward B, Madison H, John K, John SS, Rick H, Scott S, Jeff M, Robert W, and Rory C

Introductions - Guests, New Members:    Dave D. of All Era Militaria came to talk about a military gear and gun trade show he is putting on November 24/25th at the Mayborn Convention Center in Temple. He offered the club a recruiting table at the show for no charge. At the end of the meeting Dave paid his 2008 dues and became a club member.

Quartermaster Report:  Herb T not present.

Treasurer's Report:   John A not present, but nothing negative to report

Web Site/Newsletter:  Website is out of date. Jeff L. not present, but sent a message to be delivered. Due to ongoing heavy work commitments, Jeff will still not be able to devote the time needed to maintain the website or perform the secretary function. He therefore will immediately pass the website on to the new webmaster, and will not run for, nor accept, the Secretary position in the coming year. There had been some discussion on this between Jeff and other members during the last couple of events, so other folks have already stepped forward and agreed to take on the responsibilities.

Recent Events: 

·        Driftwood Parade (September 29th) Madison gave a report on this short but enjoyable event. Attended by two Jeeps, two M37’s and one 5-ton.

 

·        Austin Harmony Chorus (September 29th) Rick reported on his and Danny’s attendance at this event with a Jeep and an M37, and also provided set decoration with military gear, for their theme “You’re in the Army now”.

 

·        Operation Bulldog II (October 5/6/7th) Rory gave a report on this annual three day ‘big truck’ event at Fort Hood to benefit charity, attended this year by he and Jeff L with one 2.5 and one 5-ton.

 

·        Gonzales Parade (October 6th ) Danny gave a report. Attended this year by three Jeeps and two M37’s. The group won second place out of 170 parade entries.

 

·        Change of Command, 36 th ID (October 14th) Camp Mabry. Danny gave a report on this event. An excellent turnout, with five Jeeps, two M37’s, one M35, and one M813 5-ton, with several additional members. The new General reviewed his command from Madison’s immaculate M37.

Upcoming Events:  Danny K. outlined upcoming events.  Danny will send out additional information as it becomes available and information will be posted on the club web site.  Events included:
 

·        Club Convoy (October 20th) Member Robert W’s gunshop in San Marcos opens this date. Those wishing to attend can meet at Kaiserville anytime after 0700. From there we will convoy down to San Marcos for a static display. Departure for San Marcos planned for 0830. Lunch will be served onsite. Return time is flexible.


·        Elgin Hawkeye Festival (October 22nd) No club participation planned.


·        Texas A&M Football Game (October 27th) Four WWII Jeeps have been requested to carry veterans at this game in College Station (already designated)


·        Retirement Ceremony (October 31st) For Carl Diechman at the museum on Camp Mabry, 11am.


·        Randolph AFB Airshow (November 2-3rd) Two day event, members from LS and Alamo MVPA will attend either or both days.


·        Veterans Day Display, Hutto ISD (November 9th) Setup will be on the afternoon of Nov 8th, display on the 9th, strike of encampment Nov 10th. Volunteers for any time during those days are needed.


·        Veterans Day Parade, Austin (November 11th) Sunday morning parade. The usual plan on Congress, staging at 0730. As many members as possible are encouraged to participate.


·        1944 Close Assault (November 10-11th) Camp Mabry. G Co re-enactment. More details forthcoming.


·        Military History and Gun Show (November 24-25th) Mayborn Convention Center, Temple. The club will have a table to set up recruiting material. Volunteers to man the table - contact Danny.


·        Christmas Parade, Boerne (Early December) Details forthcoming.


 

Old Business: 

 

·        None

 

New Business:

 

·        The combination Secretary/Webmaster position has not worked out well. Those two positions will again be separated. The Secretary will be responsible for the minutes, etc, and the production of the club newsletter. Webmaster will revert to an appointed position, responsibility being the website alone.

 

·        Nomination were held for the November club elections, with results as follows:
President – Rory C
Vice President – Ward B
Secretary – Rick H
Treasurer – John A (nomination has not yet been accepted)
Webmaster – John SS was appointed as the new webmaster, to take effect immediately.

Announcements:  

·        Danny advised that the Texas Airborne Historical Association (TAHA) has been chartered, and is an affiliate of MVPA.
