The meeting was called to order at 7:15pm

General Business...

bulletWard B introduced himself to the club.  Ward has been a longtime Lonestar member and MVPA member.  Retired in 1988 from the USAF, Ward has a 1941 Slat Grill MB currently in San Antonio at Stinson Field at the Air Museum.  He's working on getting the vehicle moved to Austin.  Scott volunteered to pick it up sometime in the near future.  Ward indicated it may need some brake work and hasn't run in four (4) years at the museum.
bulletClub introductions were done by the members present in order for Ward to meet members.  Clay indicated he is now the new owner of a 1953 M38A1.
bulletThe minutes from the last meeting were read and accepted with the following changes:
bulletFred "Castenada" gave the overview for the "Tracers" play at St. Edwards University.
bullet71% National Membership
bulletThe Treasurer Report was given by Jeff McD.  The balance was read and accepted.  Currently, $215 of a $230 donation to the Texas Military Forces Museum has been recouped.  YTD Net Income is $ <272>.  The club has 57 paid/current members of which 72% are current with National MVPA memberships.  Member 58 may be in the near future.  Danny requested we do everything possible to reach our goal of 60 by years end.

 

Old Business...

bulletThe National MVPA convention was held June 27-29 at Fair Park in Dallas.  Seventeen (17) members were in attendance including six (6) vehicles.  Scott S. won 1st Place, Post War Motor Pool for his 1953 M38A1 and John K received his Expert Driver Award for 1/4 ton vehicles.  Next years event will be on the USS HORNET at Alameda, CA.
bulletJuly 4th Parade in Sequin was attended by Jim W and Shorty A.
bulletJuly 4th Parade in Shertz was attended by Jim H and Jim S.
bulletJuly 4th Parade in Gatesville was attended by Milburn L
bulletJuly 4th Parade in Lakeway was attended by many club members including an M35A2, M37, M38A1 and five (5) WWII MB's.  The group  carried four (4) Generals living in Lakeway in addition to thirty (30) or so WWII veterans.  The city of Lakeway also donated $300 to the club for their efforts to make this parade a success.
bulletThe McDade Festival was held in the rain.  Jeff McD, Danny K, Claude V, Barry F, John K and Herb T braved the wet weather to bring home First Place - Best Vehicle Group.  Vehicles included two (2) MB's, Claude's WWII Ambulance, Danny's M151A2 and Barry's Desert Storm Buggy.

 

New Business...

bulletA discussion was held regarding the upcoming Elgin Frontier Days Parade July 27.  The club decided to not attend this event.
bulletA discussion was held on an event for Round Rock scheduled for 2003 which Danny had received an invitation for.  The club decided to hold off until next year to discuss further.
bulletAugust 24th is scheduled for the Annual Convoy and Trail Ride.  Location to be at Milburn's place in Purmela which is about 100 miles North Northwest from Austin.  Plans are to meet at his place between 9 and 10am.  Bring your own lunch/beverage.  We'll drive around his place and the roads surrounding his ranch and be finished around 4pm.  Club T-Shirt event.
bulletWimberley is holding their annual parade Labor Day weekend in conjunction with their "Jubilee" event.  Scheduled for August 31st.  It's put on by the COC.  The group will meet at the local VFW post where there is secured parking.  Club member Lewis S is a member of the post and more information will be available at the August meeting.  Club T-Shirt event.
bulletThe Manor Lions Fest parade is scheduled for September 21.  It's a very short parade in Manor.  Initial commitments are 4-6 jeeps will attend.  Club T-Shirt event.  More information at next months meeting.
bulletFor October, the club will have the option for parades in Hutto (Olde Tyme Days Parade), Gonzales (Come and Take It Parade) and Elgin (Hogeye Festival)  More information later.
bulletMuster Day will occur November 2/3 at Camp Mabry.  Period Correct Uniform and more information as it develops.
bulletSome discussion is occurring with the Air Force formerly knows as the Confederacy.  Discussions are taking place within the CAF to hold a 1 day static event at San Marcos November 9.  Some discussion at the meeting indicated this may turn out to be an actual air-show.
bulletThe Dallas Military Expo will hold their semi-annual show November 16-17 at the Convention Center in Dallas.  The Ramada Inn is the host hotel.
bulletRobin Baker with a construction company in Houston has been holding conversations with Danny K. regarding the disposition of a 2 1/2 ton truck they have and are ready to release.  Discussions at the meeting centered on the desirability of obtaining the vehicle, cost to transport to Austin and other facets of ownership.  A motion was made to have Web S haul the vehicle to Austin and voted/passed.  Estimated cost to transport is $300 and Jeff McD, John K and Scott S will take a trip to Houston to view the vehicle and arrange transportation.  The vehicle is a 1972 Kaiser M35A2 W-O which we believe is "With Out" Winch.

 

General Information and Good of the Club...

bulletJohn K passed out flyers of M38 and M38A1 parts located in Hondo, Texas.  The contact was made during the Monster Truck Show in San Antonio earlier this year.
bulletDanny indicated there is a M422 "Mighty-Mite" for sale on E-Bay.
bulletDanny passed out a document on the Gun Show Loophole.
bulletHerb asked how to correct title issues with vehicles.  Scott S provided a contact called International Title Service (on the web) that handles these types of issues with a bill of sale.  They issue a NH or CT title and you take that and get a Texas title with the correct information.
bulletMidland Air Show is scheduled for October 5.
bulletWings Over Houston is scheduled for October 19/20.
bulletTim W reiterated the need for Lonestar MVPA representation at the National MVPA Board elections next year.
