The meeting was called to order at 7:20pm

General Business...

Fred Castenada provided information about the play “Tracers” currently at the Mary Moody Northern Theater on the St. Edwards campus.  Fred is providing instruction and comment to the members of the play to assure accurate portrayal of the Viet-Nam war.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read.  Claude requested minor changes to text including additional sentence to recognize members participating in the Fiesta Flambeau Vanguard Parade.

The Treasurer provided a report to the members present.  The report was accepted.  Current membership is at 56.  71% of the members are also members of the National MVPA.  A total of $230.00 will be donated to the Texas Military Forces Museum.  Members of the LS-MVPA have contributed $215.00 to replace funds in our treasury to cover this donation to TMFM.

 

Old Business...

Memorial Day go-cart event at Cedar Park attended by Toby C (MB), John K (MB), Jeff McD (MB), and Scott S (M38A1).  Barry F attended without his FAV buggy.  The Club was welcomed by the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce.  The Chamber provided participants with a BBQ lunch.

Memorial Day event at the Cook-Walden Cemetery on May 25, 2002.  Toby C (MB), Scott S (M38A1) and Danny K (M151A2) were present for the ceremonies.

Lockhart Chisholm Trail Parade on June 8, 2002 was attended by Danny K (M151A2) Scott S (M38A1) and his dad John, and Jeff McD (MB).

Army Recruiter Friday...  Barry F attended in WW-II uniform an provided an additional display of WW-II gear and equipment.  Claude V was in attendance for a brief period of time mid-afternoon.

Dell Diamond Celebration of the Hereo.   Attended by Danny K (M151A2/M416), John K (MB), John S (M35A2), Scott S (M38A1), and Tim W (MB).

Toby C and Tim W attended Kenny W’s commissioning ceremony.

Tim W attended Robin Prosser’s commissioning ceremony.

 

New Business...

bulletMcDade Parade 07/13/2002.  Form-up begins at 7:30am, judging at 9am and the parade starts at 10:00am.
bulletNo events scheduled yet for August.
bulletA discussion was held regarding Purmela and use of Milburn's ranch for the next trail-ride/convoy activity.  The discussion centered on logistics, distance (about 100 miles from Austin), his place (ranch land) and a late August/early September date.  Danny will follow-up with Milburn for more details and information.
bulletMarch 2003 in Muskogee OK there will be a WWII "Town Reenactment".  John K indicated he attended this event last year and it was a tremendous experience.  An entire town has been recreated and both allied and axis forces converge on the town for a weekend of very realistic battles.  More information to follow as known.

General Information and Good of the Club...

bulletThe Lonestar chapter was the Featured Website for the June/July 2002 edition of Supply Line.
bulletScott S presented Jeff M with a publication from Saudi Arabia where a picture from the Austin Veterans Day Parade was used promoting bicycle safety and featuring Jeff in his period correct WWII uniform in front of his WWII jeep.
bulletTim W proposed a short discussion on several of our club members as eligible for a National Director position within the National MVPA organization.
bulletScott informed the group of a jeep supplier in Brownwood with several MB's, M38's and M38A1's for sale in addition to parts.
bulletDanny indicated the club received a "Letter of Appreciation" from the Helping Hands/Kars for Kids Car Show.  Jeff and Tim also indicated they received nice "Thank-You" cards as well.
bulletClaude reported the most recent edition of the CAF publication had a paragraph about the last general staff meeting whereby Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld indicated the demilitarization of former military vehicles clause has been omitted from the 2003 Defense Budget request.
bulletDanny provided handouts and posters for the upcoming play "Tracers" mentioned above.
