General Business...
| Herb Tate introduced himself as a guest to the meeting. He indicated
he is very interested in joining the club and is in search of a WWII
MB. Welcome Herb! |
| Bill Dollahite of Dollahite Racing gave a presentation on his upcoming
Go-Cart Gran-Prix race in Cedar park to be held the weekend of May
25-27. His presentation included the objectives of the event, planning
and growth potential. Our request is to provide vehicles for the
events Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27. Members in attendance
would receive free admission to the event and be treated to some good racing
through the streets of Cedar Park. (editor note... see Upcoming
Events for more details) |
| The minutes from last months meeting were read and accepted. (editor
note... The change to distribution of rosters has been made) |
| The treasury report was submitted by Treasurer Jeff McD. The club
now has 52 members with an additional 4 in process. At this time, 86%
of our membership is also National. The club balance was accepted as
read. The donation of $230 was made to the Texas Military Forces
Museum of which $210 has been recouped by membership. New Member
Packets continue to be distributed to new members. |
Old Business...
| Taylor Cot'n Pick'n Festival Parade was well attended by John S, Scott S, Jeff McD and
Danny K. The event was well received by the event organizers.
John S made a grand entrance by hitting a large light pole with his M35A2
but it didn't fall over. Only slight damage was noted to the pole and
his tail-gate. |
| The Georgetown Air Show was a success. This was the largest display
of military vehicles and equipment so far in the show's 16 year
history. In excess of 30 vehicles were present and numerous
displays. There will however, be no more airshows at the Georgetown
Airport due to political pressures. Look to Temple in 2004 for their
1st Annual air show. |
| Kars for Kids car show was yet another success. Toby C, Scott S, Tim
W, Danny K, Lewis S, Barry F all brought vehicles and John K brought his
daughter. There were over 250 entries this year and a rough
calculation indicated more money was raised this year then the previous
year. There was also an auction and a drawing at the conclusion of the
event for five, $100 dollar bills drawn individually. Scott S won the
first drawing and Tim W won the 3rd of which he donated back to the event. |
| The Joe VanSlyke Memorial Jeep fest held in Burton was attended by Scott S
with his M38A1. Scott indicated Joe was a former member who passed
away and the event was in conjunction with Burton's Cotton Festival. A
parade was held and then a bbq back at a ranch outside of Carmine,
Texas. Many old Jeep vehicles including panel wagons and pickup trucks
were present. |
| The Fiesta Flambeau parade was held in San Antonio and attended by Don C,
Jim S and Web S. They provided a 1941 Dodge WC-6 Command Car and a
1942 White M2A1 Halftrack. The "Vanguard Parade" was
supported by Jim W (son Houston drove Jim's 1952 M38, Dean K was in his 1943
GPW, and Ray V in his 1971 M151A2. The event was HOT according to Don. Over 28 TV
stations covered the activities including a 2.6 mile parade with people
lined 10-15 deep along the route. |
New Business...
| Memorial Day weekend, May 25th at Cook Walden funeral home at Wm. Cannon
and Hwy 290/71 near the Taco Bell will be a ceremony in honor of Memorial
Day. This short 30 minute service will be held with a few static
display vehicles already secured. |
| Chisholm Trail Roundup parade remains scheduled for June 8 in
Lockhart. Club T's are the uniform. Staging number not yet
assigned. After the event we will drive over to Blacks BBQ for
lunch. See Upcoming Events for more details. |
| National MVPA Convention. The convention is drawing near.
Those interested in a breakfast and convoy should meet at the Cracker Barrel
in Round Rock (exit 254, West side of I35) at 7:00am. We will eat then
head to Dallas for the event. |
| Lakeway 4-July Parade. The Lakeway Independence Day Parade will be
held on the 4th. We will meet at Swenson Auctioneers as usual then
drive to the staging area on the golf course. After the parade, we
will convoy over to Scott Swenson's house for burgers and beverage.
Danny indicated there are 4 Generals that will need rides so everyone is
requested to come if possible. |
| McDade Parade. July 13th event. We will use Claude's place as
a starting point then convoy to the parade. Check-in at 7:00am,
judging is at 9:00am and the parade starts at 10:00am this year. |
| Manor Lions Fest Parade and the Veterans Day Parade in Austin are coming
along. More information to follow later. There is an event in
Biloxi MS we have been invited to but declined. |
| Muster Day at Camp Mabry is 'looking good' for this year to occur. |
| Milburn L still wants to host a convoy. Thought should be given to
the organization and date selection of a fall convoy/event. Contact
Danny with ideas. |
General Information and Good of the Club...
| Robin P and Kenny W will graduate from UT and Concordia respectively this
Friday. Those who can attend are encouraged to do so. |
| The Arrowhead Chapter (Dallas area) has many pictures of the Georgetown
Air Show posted for those interested. |
