The meeting was called to order at 7:15pm at the Holiday House on Exposition Blvd as Camp Mabry remains closed to the general public.

General Business...

bulletDanny opened the meeting with a discussion of the recent events in NY, DC and PA precluding our movement to a different location such as the Holiday House restaurant on Exposition Blvd for this meeting.  Until things settle down and we are allowed back on Mabry post, he will continue to search for more suitable meeting facilities.
bulletThe group took a moment of silence to honor those who died in 11-Sep-01 in the attacks.
bulletIntroductions of club members was done for the benefit of two new members including Richard Powell and Cliff Holtz.  Additionally, Bob Stienman was a guest.
bulletA motion was made to dispense with the reading of the minutes.  As always, a copy may be found on the clubs web site at http://www.lonestar-mvpa.org under the Members section/Minutes sub-section.
bulletThe Treasury report was given by Scott.  Currently the club has 50 paid members and the treasury balance was accepted as read.  A distribution was made to Kenny for reimbursement of postage and copy supplies for the newsletter.  A second distribution was made to Horizon Sportswear for another order of club t-shirts.

 

Old Business...

bulletThe American Legion parade in San Antonio was discussed.  This was a well attended event by the club and those attending the National American Legion parade.
bulletThe Vietnam battle re-enactment was also a success as reported by John K.  This was held just outside of Fredericksburg and a good time was had by all.

 

New Business...

bulletSeptember 22 Manor "Lions Fest" parade in Manor Texas.  Barry, Claude, John, and Danny plan on attending.  Arrival time is 8:30am in Manor, just East of Austin on Hwy 290.  Maps were handed out to those who will attend.  
bulletThe Rosanky Swap Meet and Car Show will be this weekend in Rosanky Texas just West of Bastrop.
bulletSeptember 29th Danny will host the "Kaiserville Konvoy" from his place.  See Upcoming Events on the web site for more details including directions, food, vehicles, uniform of the day etc.
bulletOctober 6th we will attend the Austin Armor Builders Society National Convention at the Manchaca VFW post.  This will be a static display with target arrival time of 8:30am or so.  Period correct uniforms.
bulletOctober 6th is also the Gonzales Come and Take it Parade.  Jim W expressed his desire to head that one up for the San Antonio crowd.
bulletOctober 20 is the Hutto Old Time Days Parade.  A discussion was held and the club decided to not attend.
bulletOctober 20 is the scheduled date for the Wings Over Houston airshow.  At this time, we believe it will not occur as Ellington AFB is an active base and in light of the recent events in NY.
bulletNovember's annual Muster Day has been cancelled.
bulletNovember 1-4 is scheduled for the traveling Vietnam Wall exhibit at the State Cemetery on 7th St. just East of IH35.  Contact information was distributed.  See Upcoming Events for details.
bulletNovember 3/4 is the annual Dallas VI Corp show which is well attended by club members.
bulletNovember 10 is the Veterans Day parade in San Antonio.  See Upcoming Events for details.
bulletNovember 11 is the Veterans Day parade in Austin.  See Upcoming Events for details.

 

General Information and Good of the Club...

Please make sure you forward any changes in contact information to Scott so he can keep the records updated.  E-mail and the web our the primary tools of communication.

His wife's company matches donations to the NYC events if anyone is interested.

The Hanger Dance in San Marcos is still "ON".

Vehicle Emissions Requirements discussion to be deferred until a later meeting.

A short discussion of historic military vehicle licensing requirements, law etc.  He will provide information to the webmaster for posting to the site.

His presentation focused on Congressional Activity regarding Senate Bill 1416 (SB1416) with specific emphasis on Section 1062 dealing with demilitarization of military equipment and it' potential implications on our hobby.

bulletDanny reminded those in attendance of club merchandise for sale
bulletDanny informed the group of the recent direction change from National MVPA that we are a group of HISTORIC military vehicle collectors, not ANTIQUE.
bulletAppointments to the Nominating Committee were tabled until next meeting.
bulletDanny was pleased to announce to the group that the Lonestar MVPA chapter was recently profiled in Supply Line.  Prior to that article, Scott was published in Army Motors for his write-up on the Vietnam Wall display in Austin last year.
bulletThe Lonestar MVPA chapter is the number ONE chapter in Texas with the highest percentage of National members.  We are number TWO in the country.  We are number THREE in the world.  Danny congratulated each of of and encouraged us to retain our National memberships.
bulletThe web site contents are only as good as the submissions.  If you want something posted, get it to Scott.  Specifically write-ups, pictures etc on Past Events where there are some 'holes'.
bulletPlease note the clubs's website:  http://www.lonestar-mvpa.org.  The dash between lonestar and mvpa is a dash, NOT underscore.
bulletTim indicated he saw a write-up on our club and a picture of Jeff's jeep in the Elgin paper for the McDade parade.
bulletScott displayed flags that resemble campaign ribbons from Vietnam, Korea and WWII he has for sale.
bulletClaude indicated he has some sample letters to use for writing your Congressman regarding SB1416.
bulletClay provided information on military vehicles he has seen while driving around central Texas for his employer.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:40pm.
