Event: |
Lakeway Independence Day Parade |
Date: |
July 4th 2007 |
Location: |
Lakeway, Texas |
Description: |
This annual club event started early with the troops gathering in Lakeway a little after 7am. By 7:20 everyone had arrived- Danny K and his M37, Glen V and his jeep, Jeff M with his MB and Nurse Haley, Rick H with his M38A1, John SS and his M35A2 with Michelle and Steve, Jeff L with his M35A2, and Rory with his M813A1 along with Caitlin, Davey and Patrick.
Once all were assembled and our TAVV Vietnam Vets were aboard, we headed for staging. Due to all the rain this year, the groundskeeper felt the driving range was too soft for us to park on, so staging was on side roads all through the community. This led to an interesting drive, winding through streets of ever-decreasing size which were a bit tight for the big trucks, but we finally made it to our spot.
While at staging, the police came by looking for someone in uniform to lead the riderless horse, a tribute to our military fallen, as the final item in the parade. Davey, in his Marine garb, was selected for this honourable duty.
The parade eventually got underway and we pulled into it at our designated point. As always, this is a long and well attended parade, the serious threat of rain not affecting the number of folks who came out. The skies cooperated and it wasn’t until the final moments of the parade that the first raindrops fell. We got everything pretty well secured before the clouds finally let go with a torrent of water, and in the heavy rains everyone headed for home.
