Members of the Lone Star MVPA, Jim Scoggins and J.D. Hofer Jr., attended
the
2006 Buc Days illuminated Night Parade which was held in Corpus-Christi,
Texas, May 5th.
The 71 year old parade is held at night and brings in floats and
marching bands from Houston Tx. to the Rio Grande Valley.
The three mile parade starts at Buc Stadium, makes a lap around the
track, and travels to downtown and then along the bay front and ends at
the Buc Days Carnival. An estimated 100,000 spectators lined the
streets.
Parade started just after dark and the weather while warm during the day
cooled just right for the event. The jeeps where decked out with packs,
bags, weapons and
illuminated lights.
Jim brought his 1945 MB and had friend Dwayne Davidson, Navy Vet., for
the ride.
J.D. had his 1942 GPW and had his Dad, J.D. Hofer and nieces, Kelsey,
Korey, and Keeley Coburn as riders. Each of the nieces where dressed in
WWII Navy, Army, and Army Air Force blouses.
Both jeeps received a great and loud cheers from the crowds as they
traveled down the street. At one point as the parade came to a brief
stop, people rushed both jeeps and shook the hands of all of the riders
and gave a big THANKS.
A good time was had by all and we look forward to next year.
