Event: 4th of July - Far West Blvd
Date: July 4, 2006
Location: Austin, Tx
Description: This is like the 33rd year for the annual Farwest Blvd neighborhood parade.  Each year, the parade participants have increased.  In the beginning, the parade started at Waterline and then ran down to Doss Elementary school.  Well, the parade still finishes at Doss, but the line goes clear back to Far Hills Dr. now for the start.

I drove the jeep to this event stopping at the folks place.  I picked up my dad and niece along with her yellow lab "Bella".  We meandered to the tail end of line and waited for the start.  In the interim, my wife came by along with my sister, mom and her SO as well as Vicki and Frank, distant family members who recently located to Austin.  There were a variety of vehicles there, mostly antiques including T-Birds, Caddy's, MG's, Model A and Model T's, pickups and then my M38A1.  Zillions of kids on bicycles and in strollers.

At about 9:15am, the parade started and wandered down Farwest Blvd.  The route was no more than a mile or so and when we got to the end, we turned around and headed back to the start point where mom had lunch for us including apple fritters (fried apples and powdered sugar), bacon and chicken salad.  Sort of an odd July 4th meal, but delicious none-the-less.

After a bit, everyone departed and I made the trek back down the highway to put the old jeep back in the garage.  Ran into a slight bit of rain, no more than a quarter-mile or so of it, but running 45 mph and everyone else at 65 does make for an interesting time!
