By: Scott S.After finishing the Manor parade, I
swung by to help the Plane-Girls who were sponsoring a charity carwash for
Angel Flight.
For those of you that don't know, the Plane-Girls are women interested in
aviation and either have their pilots license or are working toward
receiving one. Angel Flight is a non-profit network of pilots that donate
air-time to disadvantaged or ill children who require transportation
services.
Upon arrival, "Doc", Chelsie and Chasity were all smiles when I pulled
into the parking lot in the jeep. Before I even got out of the jeep, Doc
stuck out his hand and gave me a warm welcome. I told them I had a few
hours to help where I could and we decided to park the jeep out by the
street for 'curb appeal'. Well, that and the Plane-Girls in the jeep or
holding the carwash signs is what was going to bring in the dirty cars.
While there, Doc fired up the little kettle grill and tossed on some 'dawgs
which were mighty fine tasting. We joked about me cooking the famous 'jeep
burgers' at the recent airshows this year. Then, a big old guy walks up and
asks "about the jeep for sale". I recognized him as Matt R. from the
re-enactor group and we laughed for a while about my jeep being 'For Sale'.
I hadn't given thought to our close-knit community networking with one
another and someone drove by the car lot thinking the jeep was for sale and
calling a friend to look at it. Matt stuck around for a while and gave a
donation for his hot-dog then left.
After a few carwashes and an ever threatening cloudy sky I hit my mark
where I had to pack up and say good-bye. I thanked Doc for the hotdog, said
my good-byes to the girls and loaded up the jeep but not before I noticed
some 'bank' in the donation jar.
Another good event for the jeep and for a good cause too.
