Rain dog-gone-it!In spite of the rains, the club had a
fantastic turn-out and one heck of a good time! Barry was set-up in
the WWII area with his 1 ton Chevy and so was John K with his
MB. Danny brought his M151A2/M416 combo, Scott brought his M38A1,
Herb brought his GPW, Glen brought his CJ2A, Rick H brought his M38A1, and
Tim W brought his MB Slatgrill and cousin. Also lurking around was Fred H, Ward
B in his Army aviators uniform, Jeff McD in uniform with his nephews, Claude, Web in the Sherman, and Don C in
an APC.
Those that arrived early took over the gazebo on the East side
of the parade field. Figuring it was going to rain most of the day,
that was a wise choice. Danny brought a large table that served as
the command area with all the food and Scott brought his bbq pit.
Not many people came by our display in the middle of nowhere as the
morning progressed. At about 10:00am, the parade began with a lot of
vehicles from the museum as well as other participants. Nobody from
the LS-MVPA opted to participate as we stayed dry.
After the parade, and
as the rain was coming and going, Scott fired up the grill and Prez Tim
began cooking for everyone. Rick brought Johnsonville Brats which
wound up as the hit of the food line-up sandwiched in a flour tortilla
with mustard.
About mid-afternoon, the rain turned to drizzle and
then began to clear up a bit. A fair amount of people began to
assemble at our display but our consensus was that all the armor parade
vehicles were parked just behind us on the East service road of the
camp. In any case, the vehicles became a good target for the
spectators.
Getting later in the afternoon, Scott loaded up along with
Herb and Tim and Rick headed out. The remaining vehicles were
covered for the evenings continued rain and everyone left.
Sunday was a
different story. The sun was actually out and the crowds
moderate. About the time of the re-enactment, Danny loaded up his
vehicle and headed out.
