Garcia Park Rededication |
| Date: |
23-Oct-04 |
| Location: |
San Antonio, TX |
| Description: |
On Saturday 23 Oct 04, the San Antonio Planning Commission
along with the family of Staff Sergeant Eduardo S. Garcia Jr., the City of
San Antonio Parks and Recreation Dept. and the Economic Development Dept.
honored a fallen Air Force Vietnam Veteran by assisting with a park
re-dedication ceremony named in honor of SSgt. Eduardo S. Garcia Jr. who
was born in San Antonio on 7 Oct. 35.
The park, formerly named Old Vista Verde Park, located at Frio and I-10
was renamed in honor of SSgt. Garcia who was killed on 18 Mar 68 and was
awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart posthumously as a result of his
action during an armed encounter near Quang Nam, South
Vietnam.
Making the trip to San Antonio to honor a fellow Vietnam Veteran was
Danny K. from the Lone Star MVPA. There he met up with Erik S. from
San Antonio, a group of Vietnam Reenactors from Houston, a drill team and
honor guard from a local High School. It was a very festive occasion
with hot dogs, drinks, and cake with the group from Houston putting on a
very impressive fire power demonstration. A very impressive event to
honor someone who paid the ultimate price for our not so free freedom. |
