August 7th was the date for the annual Lone Star
Convoy. Weather wise it was a great day for a drive in the country
but due some unscheduled work commitments, various vehicles still under
restoration and a couple of unexpected home projects the turnout was less
than expected.
The mission however did go on as planned. Glen V., Scott C. and
passenger Bo T. arrived at Kaiserville about 0900, had some coffee and
donuts and at 1000 hrs headed out to the car museum in Rosanky, Tx with
Danny K. leading the group. Even though a small convoy, we still
turned heads and got a lot of thumbs up as we traveled the back roads to
Rosanky.
After arriving, we spent the next few hours touring the 200 plus
vehicles at Mr. Dick Burdicks personal car museum located on his ranch
which is on Hwy 304 about 12 miles south of Bastrop and a must to see if
you haven't ever been there. Getting close to lunch time now, we
headed out to the picnic area only to find our own vehicles surrounded by
onlookers that had come to see the museum also. After the usual
question and answers we had lunch took a few photos and made our way back
to Kaiserville and relaxed with a couple of adult beverages on a hot
August afternoon.
Another successful convoy without a breakdown, accident or
ambush. Convoy for 2005 TBA.
