The Central Texas Air Show in Temple was a major success for
a first year event.
Web S. and Don C. from the Lone Star MVPA
played vital roles in making this event work out great.
Attendance was estimated to be well in excess of the attendance at
the Georgetown show and the event organizers went all out to put on a
great show that was highlighted by fantastic pyrotechnics with coordinated
air and vehicle demonstrations.
The classic Tora Tora Tora reenactment was a crowd favorite.
A representative ETO armor battle was also presented with a
terrific combination of air power, tanks, half tracks, and reenactors
decked out as opposing German and American combat forces.
The work of the CAF Blastards made quite a favorable impression
with their pyrotechnics, and the coordination between ground and air
assets made this show particularly memorable.
Static displays included vehicles from across the state ranging
from a Sherman tank and M-8 armored car to a Hetzer and a couple of
Kubalwagons. A beautiful ambulance from the Arrowhead Chapter was there
with all the trappings and a trio of half tracks were a definite crowd
pleaser.
The Lone Star MVPA turned out a number of jeeps and a deuce and half
along with members in period correct.
The show organizers rolled out the red carpet and made sure there
were abundant facilities and lots of water for participants.
The vendors made a strong showing and the available food was
excellent as well as economically priced.
This event will be a “must attend” event for years to come.
