This annual event was moved up this year in the hope of
having some better weather than in recent years. The move was a good one.
The weather was almost picture perfect.
The turnout was outstanding with military reenactors of all eras
coming in from across the state.
Barry F arrived early to set up. Don
and Carol Lwere on hand and helped Barry out some.
Barry had his 1 ½ ton Chevrolet truck set up as a concession vehicle and
brought an extra tent to add to the WWII tents which had been pitched by a
number of other participants. Don gave some impromptu lessons in the
Manual of Arms for the M1 Garand.
Also on hand were club members John K, Jeff McD, Jeni L, Herb T, Tim W,
and Jim H which added four more jeeps to the gathering that included quite
a few jeeps as well as a number of tanks, five half-tracks, tank
retrievers, APCs, and a weasel.
Danny K and Scott S rolled in after attending the Gonzales Come and
Take It Parade which increased the club showing even more.
The event included a parade and quite a few military related
demonstrations.
Good food was plentiful and the crowd was enthusiastic.
A flyover of F16s made quite an impression on the audience and, for
a small fee, those who were interested were able to take rides in some of
the ground vehicles with proceeds going to the Texas Military Forces
Museum.
