Wild deer, wild turkey, Texas longhorns, sheep and goats and
the Texas Hill Country. We must be in heaven!
That about sums up the annual trail-ride and convoy for this
year. The club had a fantastic turnout for this years event meeting
at the local VFW in Wimberley on a beautiful Saturday morning. Lewis
S, our local Wimberley resident and VFW member treated the group to coffee
and donuts and then staged for a 37 mile trip through some of the most
scenic parts of Central Texas.
Those attending included Lewis S and his M38A1, Danny K and his M151A2,
Herb T and his GPW, Scott S and his M38A1, Jim W and his M38, Glen V and
his CJ2A, Jim H and his MB and rounding out the vehicles was Milburn L and
his M8 Scout Car. Also along for the event was Don and Carol L
from Bryan/College Station and a friend of Milburn's, Howard.
Promptly at 10:00am, we departed the VFW and headed straight for the
hill country. With Lewis leading and Scott as tail-end-charlie, the
group of eight vehicles wound it's way through low water crossings,
one-lane bridges, multiple cattle guards switchbacks. Along the way,
we saw several groups of deer, turkey, sheep/goats and many ranches with
herds of Texas Longhorns.
After traveling 37 miles or so, the entire group found its way to the
local Subway sandwich shop where we all chowed down. After lunch, we
took the short 3 mile trip back to the VFW, loaded up and departed.
On a side note, all eight vehicles completed the trip and no malfunctions
were noted along the way.
Many thanks must go to Lewis S, our event coordinator on this event for
a wonderful time!
