Event: Wimberley Jubilee Parade
Date: 31-Aug-02
Location: Wimberley, Texas
Description: What a fun little event.  The Wimberley Jubilee Parade exceeded even the organizers expectations in that there were 10 historic military vehicles of which 8 were from the Lonestar MVPA.  This event was a combination of the scheduled Jubilee with the rained-out 04-Jul Parade earlier in the summer.

Tim W, Jeff McD and John K each brought their WWII Willy's MBs.  Glen V had his CJ2A and a pair of M38A1's were brought by Lewis S and Scott S.  Danny rounded out the 1/4 vehicles with his M151A2/M416 combination and John S brought out his M35A2.  In addition to these Lonestar vehicles, "Cave Dave" led our group with his 1945 HD Trike (SERVI-Car/flathead) followed by Chris D and his '42 Dodge WC-52 Weapons Carrier.

The group met at the Wimberley VFW post around 8:00am.  A few stragglers arrived between 8:30 and 8:45 which presented no problems other than a bit of ribbing from the club president!  We loaded up a sizeable group of WWI/Korea/Vietnam veterans in the vehicles and 'headed to town' in fine convoy fashion - tight group with headlights on.

Upon arrival in town, we made our way to the staging area where we waited until the start of the parade.  At 10:00am, the parade began and we were off through the beautiful little town of Wimberley.  A nice contingent of local residents lined the short 2 mile parade route but there was no lack of spirit on their behalf.  Many of the drivers with their veterans on-board made comments of hearing countless "thanks" from the spectators.  To top it off, our club won "Most Patriotic" of the parade!

After the parade ended, the group made their way back to the VFW post to unload the distinguished veterans.  The VFW was gracious enough to 'open the bar' to our group and provided cold beverages of our choosing.  After some cooling off in the terrific air-conditioned VFW hall, the group loaded the vehicles and departed for home.  Several members had then stopped at the local Dairy Queen in Dripping Springs for a quick bite of lunch before heading home.

A terrific little town (Wimberley).  A terrific host (VFW).  A great showing of support (spectators) and one heck of a good time was had by all.
