| Description: | Today's event was our largest turnout for this parade
ever! We had TWELVE vehicles participate including Danny's M151,
Toby's MB, Glen's CJ2A/MB, Tim's MB, Jeff's MB, Warrens M35A2, Fred's GPW,
Richard and Curtis's M211, Scott on his bicycle, Claude's Ambulance, John
and his MB and finally, Kenny brought a 5 ton compliments of his
unit. A VERY impressive display of current and historic hardware.
To top it off, everyone was dressed in period correct uniform. Also attending was Barry in his Airborne gear, Ron in his Vietnam gear (with the TAVV) and Robin in her current issue flight suit. Robin is one of our members who is going to graduate from UT May '02 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering and already has her appointment to the USAF Flight School specifically in the F15. GO ROBIN! We all met at the Austin American Statesman about 7:30am. After securing our vehicles and gear, we made our way on to the Congress Ave bridge. and waited, and waited and moved and waited. Finally, about 9:30, the parade started and we motored up Congress Ave to the Capitol. Lining Congress Ave were hundreds of spectators all decked out in red, white and blue. Our group was definitely a 'hit' with the crowd. After the parade, many of us drove back to Danny's place of work, Fleet Maintenance of Texas where he brought out the bbq grill and everyone cooked their meals and discussed the parade and days activities. Around 12:30pm, we cleaned up our area at Fleet and many members headed over to Plaza Sautillio for yet another Veterans Day event. |
