Blue Santa Toy Run |
|
Date: |
16-Dec-00 |
|
Location: |
Austin, Tx |
| Description: |
Each year, the Austin Police Department solicits donations
of toys and food for families that are not so fortunate during the
holiday season. This year, some 32,000 families were assisted by
the Blue Santa efforts. Our club decided to participate in this event late in the
year (ok, like a week before the event).
As a result, only one member participated and he drove his jeep to the old Municipal Airport
then waited first in line to receive packages. At 8:00am, he
loaded up his M38A1 with two large boxes (supplied by
Dell Computer) containing toys for the children in the sponsored
family. Then, given a map of where the family lived and directed to the freezer trailer
he received a turkey or hen to
deliver as well. He also indicated he got to meet Stan Knee, the
Austin Police Chief. At that point, he took off to deliver presents
wearing his blue Santa cap.
The member indicated he delivered his two boxes to their families who were so grateful and
appreciative of the program. These truly are people who don't have
a lot. Period. It's such a joy to see their faces light up
when a large box of presents arrives. You know it would not have
been a true Christmas without the delivery. |
